Teeth in a day or same day teeth
What are teeth in a day?
The problems caused by missing many teeth, or having very few remaining and broken down teeth can have significant effects on an individual’s life; what used to be done in unconscious and normal ways – such as smiling, eating, and speaking – can suddenly become very challenging or difficult tasks to manage. In such severe dental breakdown conditions dental implants may provide effective solutions in order to restore aesthetics and function.
The conventional implant protocol includes a few months of healing period, before they can fully be integrated with the surrounding tissue – and before prosthetic teeth can be attached. However, not everyone is comfortable with the idea of spending a few months without teeth while waiting for the implants to be fully healed – and before the teeth restorations can be placed. For those patients, we can usually modify the protocol and plan in order to extract the remaining failing teeth, place the dental implants and attach the temporary teeth, all on the same day! This is usually done on 4-6 implants and will depend on the individual medical and anatomical circumstances that exist for each patient.
What are the benefits of the teeth in a day protocol?
With the Teeth in a day protocol you will receive the following benefits:
- Secured and fixed teeth in just one day (extractions, implants and fixed teeth).
- Cost effective dental implant treatment. The elimination of the need for more complicated bone grafting, or sinus grafting, procedures translates to a more cost-effective implants treatment with lower complications.
- Shorter treatment times.
- Immediate Aesthetic and Functional Improvement – The dental implants are loaded and attached to fixed bridge restorations within the same day, so there is no need to wait for a few months for the implants to fully be healed and integrated to the surrounding tissue.
- Long-Term Success and Comfort – The protocol has enjoyed great success rates in the scientific literature, especially for the lower jaw.
- Cost-Effective Implants Treatment – The elimination of the need for more complicated bone grafting, or sinus grafting, procedures translates to a more cost-effective Fast and Fixed implants treatment. A shorter treatment period, along with fewer visits to the dentist, will provide patients with more savings on the overall expenses associated with a dental implant treatment.
What are the steps involved?
Some diagnostic steps are needed prior to the teeth in a day procedure, including impressions and records of your jaws, x-rays and a 3D cone beam CT scan to help the dentist plan the dental implant surgery. Surgery can be done with the patient either under intravenous (IV) sedation and local anesthetic. The surgery time is about 2 hours/jaw. Extractions can be done at the same time, during surgery. On the same day of the implant placement a full arch fixed prosthesis will be attached to the dental implants (so the patient is never without any teeth during the treatment). The provisional restoration will look very natural. No one will notice that is only a temporary bridge.
The implants will be allowed to integrate with the jawbone and heal for a minimum of 3 months. After the healing period, the final restoration is fitted after following all the necessary clinical and laboratory steps.
